Internship at KNBC

I've been like a fish out of water for the past 5 months - and I've loved every minute of it. In May, I started an internship with KNBC Channel 4 in Burbank, and, coming from a print journalism background, I knew it was going to be something very new for me. I wanted to take this step, though, to expand myself as a journalist.

I intern with the KNBC Investigative Unit, so I get to help with various undercover and investigative news stories. I work alongside some of the most talented in the business, such as investigative reporter Ana Garcia (who also anchors the news at 6 p.m.) and investigative producer Fred Mamoun. This past summer, one of the most exciting stories I helped them cover involved L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's exposed affair with Telemundo reporter Mirthala Salinas. The affair, which was uncovered in July, caused a news-frenzy, and we were all over it.

Right now, with sweeps month coming up, we are working on some exciting new stories, so be sure to tune in to Channel 4 in November to check those out. You can also check out KNBC's Web site at knbc.com.

Information seekers traveled from as far as two counties away to have experts appraise their household antiques at the Museum of Ventura County. At the fundraiser many hopefuls stood in line holding their art, jewelry, prints and furniture waiting to have their valuables appraised. Some valuables were purely sentimental while others were worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Well my internship's over, but I realized I haven't updated one of my biggest fans (a.k.a. you) in quite awhile. Now I'm back home writing for the Stockton paper and another magazine....can't quite compare to the DC life though. But I actually walked away from USAT as the first intern in their history with a freelance contract, so I'm technically still working for them.

Ventura County Star Interns

All the interns here got a little press the other day. I don't know why I'm on the bottom of the list. I hope they are saving the best for last and that I'm not the least favorite. I'm inclined to believe the latter.

Pepperdine Junior makes waves at USAToday

Rising junior Jane Lee is interning for USAToday this summer in Washington, D.C. Hopefully here two going on three years of service to the Graphic have helped her at one of the largest newspapers in the world.
